About the Position

Summary Underwrite and produce profitable business within an assigned territory in accordance with Company objectives and policies.

Lines of Business Commercial Property, General Liability, Automobile, Umbrella, Inland Marine, Cyber, EPLI and Crime. Commercial Business Owners Policy (BOP).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Examines documents such as application forms, inspection reports, supplemental applications, financial reports, motor vehicle reports, and past loss experience to determine business operations, degree of risk and risk acceptability.
  • Determine supporting coverage terms, limits and pricing based on analysis of business operations and risk characteristics.
  • Work within specific authority level to quote, accept, decline, modify and renew risks within territorial assignment in accordance with accepted underwriting guidelines.
  • Determine and place reinsurance when required for high exposures.
  • Proactive ownership of territory to ensure long term profitability. Including agency profitability, portfolio management and providing insight for strategy changes.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with agencies. Travel is required to meet with agents. Maintain strong relationships and to become familiar with the underwriting territory.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred; and 4+ years of underwriting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills Advanced Microsoft Office Skills

Knowledge/Skills Strong analytical and communication skills. Detail oriented with the ability to work in a team environment and be flexible to daily changing needs and job duties. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
